HMTC is Herefordshire's leading musical theatre company. We were founded in 1898 as Hereford Amateur Operatic Society. We have a fantastic, enthusiastic membership ranging from ages 8 to 80!
We have our own clubroom and theatre in Whitecross Road in Hereford which can be booked out for private functions
when we are not rehearsing there. It has a fantastic stage, dance floor, tables & chairs, sound & lighting system, perfect for any party!
The adult company stages 2 major musicals
every year. One at our Tomkins Theatre in spring and in the Autumn at the Courtyard Theatre. We are renowned for our professional standards even though we are amateurs. We sing, dance, act, all with excellent lighting, staging & sound. We love entertaining the audiences of Hereford. We have a thriving youth theatre which meets on Sunday afternoons and stages its own show every February at our own theatre and sometimes there are opportunities for youth members to be involved in the Courtyard productions.
We also stage an annual summer concert involving all members at our own theatre along with a dazzling Christmas show. We also have a concert party that can provide excellent entertainment for private functions! Thinking of joining us?
Here are a few things you might want to know:
We put on 2 shows a year, the Spring show in our own theatre and the Autumn show at the Courtyard
. We also put on several concerts each year.
We meet at our premises in Whitecross Road on a Tuesday. If we are rehearsing for a show, the chorus sing on Tuesdays. Principals and dancers rehearse on other nights. Initially, the chorus will rehearse once a week but expect to be called more frequently as we get closer to opening night.
Potential new members are required to take an audition. This consists of reading a short piece of dialogue and singing a song. If you are successful, you then pay subs. For 2016 subs are:
£50 for adults
£35 for full time students or senior citizens.
Membership is renewed 1st January each year. Once subs have been paid, you are then eligible to audition for parts in productions.
If you do not want to perform, you may be interested in helping in other ways i.e. stage crew, wardrobe, props, sound and lighting, choreography, directing, fundraising etc. You do not need to audition to be a non performing member.
If you are still not sure, come along and have a chat with us on a Tuesday night. We'd love to meet you!
We are a charity so we are always in need of support
, be that financial through advertising or sponsorships, or voluntary assistance with anything ranging from costumes, to backstage, front of house to fundraising, publicity and promotion.
